Proton & Neutron
![]() |
| Proton & Neutron discovery |
Discovery of Proton
In since 1886 Eugene Goldstein observed that along that cathode rays other rays are also present in this discharge tube. These rays are appear in the shape of glow at opposite end of anode at back of perforated cathode. These rays come from anode and passed through the wholes present in the cathode. Their deflection in electric and magnetic field proved that they are positively charged and named as proton and the mass of these particles (Proton) are equal to the mass of electron.
Discovery of Neutron
In since 1920 Lord Rutherford observed that the mass of these particle are not equal to the mass of proton and electron only there are some neutral particle whose mass is almost equal to the mass of proton. After his suggestion James Chadwick work on it and at least James Chadwick proved that existence of neutron in an atom after two year hard work and he also get very popularity in very short period of time. He received noble peace price in since 1935 too. such as
Proton + Electron = Neutron
Proton (1.00782 a.m.u) + Electron (0.000548 a.m.u) = Neutron (1.008368 a.m.u)
where a.m.u shows Atomic Mass Unit.

Rutherford Atomic Model
![]() |
| Rutherford Atomic Model |
The Rutherford atomic theory or the Model is the model or theory of the atom, which was devised by the Lord Ernest Rutherford. The Lord Ernest Rutherford directed the most popular experiment i-e the Geiger Marsden experiment in 1909. The Rutherford's new atomic theory or the model was based on the experimental observations, which was containing the characteristics of the Relatively of strong central charge concentrated into the very small volume in an atom and this center is also containing all the mass of an atom. Thus this, center were named/called as the Nucleus of an atom later.
Rutherford Atomic Model or Theory
In since 1910 Lord Ernest Rutherford bombarded
Alpha particle on a very thin i-e 0.0000004cm or 4 × 10-7 gold foil.
He founded that most of the alpha particle passed through it while very few one
in 20,000 deflected back at different angles.

Observation and conclusion
The following observation from his atomic theory are as follow
- Majority of the particles passed through it which shows that most of area is empty in an atom.
- Very few Alpha particles deflected. It means that there is very small area of positive charge in the nucleus of an atom.
- The positive area is in the center of an atom therefore named as nucleus.
- Mass of an atom is concentrated in nucleus of an atom.
- Electron revolves around the nucleus of an atom.
- The number of electron is equal to the number of proton therefore an atom is neutral in nature.
Result of Rutherford experiment
Rutherford performed a planetary model where sun is in the center and other planets revolve around it.
Defects or Weakness of Rutherford atomic model
- According to the classical theory of radiation or mechanics electron being the charged particle should release and produce energy and when energy is lost it should fall in the nucleus of an atom.
- If the electron produced energy continuously then it should be from a continuous spectrum but it does not happened.

The Charles’s Law
![]() |
| The Charles’s Law |
Introduction: In since 1787 Jacques Charles’s proposed a law between the relationship of volume and temperature. And it is the experimental Gas Law, which shows that how the gases tends to expand when they (gases) are heated.
Statement no.1: This Law states that “At
constant Pressure the volume of the given mass of a gas is directly
proportional to the absolute temperature”.
Statement
no.2: The
second statement of this Law states that “The
ratio of volume to temperature at constant pressure remains same”.
Mathematically
.png)
Where V is volume, T is temperature and K is
proportionality constant of Charle’s law, V1T1 represent
the initial volume and temperature of a gas respectively and V2T2
represent the final volume and temperature of a gas respectively.
Experimental Verification of Charles’s Law
Let us consider a certain amount of gas enclosed
in a having a moveable piston. The volume is 400 ml at 100K. If the temperature
is double that is 200K then its volume will be double to 800 ml. It proves that
always remain the same.

Graphical representation of Charles’s Law
If we plot a graph paper between the volume
of the gas and the temperature at a constant pressure then the straight line
will be obtained. The length of the line will be touches – 273°C. At this temperature the volume of gases
become zero which is impossible and this temperature can’t be achieved. That’s
why the scientist started a new scale from here which is known as a Kelvin scale or absolute temperature scale or Absolute Zero.
Kelvin scale or Absolute temperature scale
This absolute scale or Kelvin scale was
introduced by Lord Kelvin to make the
mathematical calculation easy because this scale does not have any negative
sign and zero value. In this scale
degree sign is also not used. This scale starts from OK which is equal to – 273°C which is known as absolute zero therefore sometimes it is called Absolute Zero scale. While working in
this different formula is used to change temperature centigrade into kelvin and
kelvin into centigrade is as follow
Change Temperature into Kelvin
T in K =°C + 273
T in °C= K – 273

The Periodic Law
![]() |
| The Henry Gwyn JeffreysMoseley (Henry G.J Moseley) |
The Henry Gwyn Jeffreys Moseley was an English Scientist (physicist), and his contribution to the science (physics) is the Concept of the atomic Number, where he proved it and also the Niels Bohr's atomic theory was the first experimental proof (evidence) in his favour along with the Ernest Rutherford theory and the Antonius van den Broek theory. This on this basis he proposed a law called Moseley's law in x - ray spectra.
The Moseley's Law or The Periodic Law: This law states that “the physical and chemical properties of an element are the periodic functions of their atomic number”.
Hence modern periodic law started and new era of classification started and scientist observed that the errors of all elements will remove with this law when they are arranged in increasing order of their atomic number. Thus the previous laws were rejected and the new law discovered the new arrangement of elements called modern periodic table The modern periodic table has 18 vertical columns known as groups and 7 horizontal rows known as period.
The Periods in Periodic table: The seven horizontal particular rows of elements in modern periodic table known as period. There are seven periods in modern periodic table.
1 - First Periods (n=1): Here n indicates there is only one main shell for the elements of this period and there are only two elements in this period.
2 - Second Periods (n=2): There are only two shells for the elements of this period and there are 8 elements in this period.
3 - Third Periods (n=3): There are only three shells for the elements of this period and there are 8 elements in this period.
4 - Fourth Periods (n=4): There are only four shells for the elements of this period and there are 18 elements in this period.
5 - Fifth Periods (n=5): There are only five shells for the elements of this period and there are 18 elements in this period.
6 - Sixth Periods (n=6): There are only six shells for the elements of this period and there are 32 elements in this period.
7 - Seventh Periods (n=7): There are only seven shells for the elements of this period and there are 26 elements in this periods but this period is incomplete.
The Groups in Periodic table: The vertical particular column of elements in modern periodic table is called groups. There are 18 groups in periodic table.
The elements in a group have similar electron configuration due to due to same number of electron in their last or outermost shell. That’s why the elements in the group have similar chemical properties. Some groups are also called by their specific name known as family name.
- First Group (Alkali Metals): This group element possesses +1 charge.
- Second Group (Alkaline Metals): This group element possesses +2 charges.
- Third Group (Boron Family): This group element possesses +3 charges.
- Fourth Group (Carbon family): This group elements possess +4 – 4 charges.
- Fifteenth Group (Nitrogen Family): This group element possesses –3 charges.
- Sixteenth Group (Oxygen Family): This group element possesses –2 charges.
- Seventeenth Group (Halogens means salt producer): This group elements possess – 1 charge.
- Eighteenth Group (Noble gases): This group element possesses 0 charges and is neutral.

![]() |
| Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity in Urdu, Hindi |
In 1905 the albert Einstein published his Special theory of relativity in "the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies" paper and here, he discussed about the relation b/w the time and the space. The special theory of relativity has two postulates and these are
- The laws of Physics are invariants (same) in all inertial frame of reference.
- The Speed of light is same for all the observer.
